Sangiri Beer Tumbler

$60.00

From the town of Bizen, Okayama Prefecture, these tumblers are partially buried in sand and ash before being fired in a red-pine fueled kiln for 10 days. Since they are covered, they do not come into direct contact with flames or air in the kiln. This produces the characteristic sangiri look, an almost molten design ranging from rust color to iridescent greys to speckled blacks. Further, as no glaze is used the irregular surface of the pottery creates fine bubbles in carbonated beverages. This changes the mouthfeel of your drink, making it smoother. The perfect gift for any beer lover.

As a result of the conditions required to produce a piece in the sangiri fashion, the appearance can vary drastically from piece to piece. Microwave and dishwasher safe.
